Default American Idol Finale

I have to say that was a pretty cool show. I thought both contestants did very well in all the songs they did. I even thought the celebs that sung did real well. Now I am a kid of the eighties and I was amazed at how well George Michaels sung...holy moley......back in the day I was MUCH more a Van Halen fan but geez he can sing good!

But, it is supposed to be a modern American Idol and they bring back people throughout the season that many of the kids today probably don't even know? Carly, Dolly, Webber, ZZ, Diamond, etc.. on and on... Surely there are enough current hitmakers to fill a season or two? lol

Yeah I agree, but I guess ever since the superbowl with Janet Jackson the networks are kinda scared!!

I think you men miss the point of bringing on "Old Timers" and selecting their material to sing.

1. It gets the Idols out of their comfort zone and a chance to see them be creative.
2. They get a little mentoring from some seasoned professional.
3. If they sang todays stufff there would be no variety.
4. Opens up people to different styles of music
4. Most of the guests fill up concert halls today. (Look at Tina Turner coming back to tour at 67. She'll sell out)

David Cook is the most marketable. He also took chances with arraingements and made them sound more modern.

Just my thoughts.

Ah, but what is the demographic of the show? I would doubt that many people under 25 are going to go to a Tina concert... but many over 40 will, but how many over 40 voted on American Idol?

I agree with Robert. Some of their invited artists (though with great talents) are antiquated.

well, I guess that is the trick.... to stay young at heart.. ha. So did the person you wanted to win, win?... I recorded it .... and the show ran over so I got right up to the :"And the winner of American Idol season 7 is"....... black screen!!!!!! Seriously.. the recording just stopped... had to go online to see who won.

I guess, heck both David's were good. However the winner doesnt always have a great album. Look at Chris Daughtry from last season, he didnt win and I think his cd is great!! Taylor hicks did win and his cd was terrible! I still dont see how hicks won.

LOL! I just stumbled onto this thread... I was gluded to the tv last season (my first complete season of watching) I agree both Davids were very good, but Cook time and time again jumped outside the box and wowed us over and over again. My 15yo who was an "archie" fan in the begining joined me at rooting for DC and was equally excited when they called his name! (How terrible to have your tape go black!)
Both albums are very good and I believe they will both have great careers!
This is one over 40 who was glued to teh set especially those final 2-3 weeks!

Daughtry was amazing and look at how well Clay Akin is doing for not winning (watched that season on Rewind)
This season should be interesting... banking on a girl just becasue the last two winners were guys. I get frustrated with teh first 2-3 weeks of 'tryouts' and all the really horrible ppl they let in to sing before the judges... just seems cruel.
Well gang have a great day and I look forward to chatting about the new season with you!

Laurie
