Embroidered Knit Caps

I read the post about knit caps and thought about doing the same thing for my area. I’ve never embroidered knit caps before in my life! I know you can’t just embroider knit caps just as you would t-shirts or sweatshirts so I was wondering if you guys have some tips for someone like myself who is not very experienced and can’t afford to ruin a single cap. Thanks y’all.

There are a couple of things you should do when embroidering knit caps. The first thing you have to keep in mind is stabilization. You do not want to stretch the knit cap when hooping. If you do, once the design is embroidered and you remove the hoop; the fabric will contract back to its original state creating a distorted effect. The design and/or around the design will be puckered or wrinkled. You can use a spray adhesive so that you don’t have to hoop the cap if you prefer. Use a heavy tear-away stabilizer and use water-soluble topping topping for a clean professional finish. Also depending on the size or complexity of the design and type of knit, you might want to consider embroidering a very sparse tatami using the same color thread as the cap. This ensure stability and a great foundation.
