Embroidering Velvet Help

I have never embroidered velvet before and am a little nervous - because it’s an expensive piece for a wedding! Any ladies care to share some tips? I want to do this right the first time. Thank you! :-)

Well what you want to do is hoop a tear away stabilizer only (without the velvet fabric). It’s not a good idea to hoop velvet because it will leave a nasty mark (hoop burn) that is very hard to remove, if at all. Then spray the stabilizer with an adhesive of your choice and stick the velvet to it and you’re ready to embroider. The weight of the tear away stabilizer is of course dependant on the weight of the velvet. I generally like to use one or two pieces of medium weight.

Great tips! Didn’t know about permanent hoop burns - hanks a for saving me!
