Home Machine Digitizing Software for Commercial Machines

I just discovered how insanely expensive commercial digitizing software are. I was talking with a good friend of mine who is also in the embroidery industry. She has a home and commercial machine. She informed me that I can use a home machine digitizing software as long as it outputs or saves the file in the Tajima format (DST). She has been embroidering for two and a half years and she has had her commercial machine for over 7 months. Is what she’s doing safe? What I mean by that is, will her machine be negatively impacted in the future because the files she loads in her commercial machine was meant for home machines? Excuse my ignorance in this, but I had to ask and find out as I have a commercial machine as well and I can’t afford a commercial digitizing software right now. If what she’s doing is okay then that would be great and I can go ahead and shop around for home software which are feasible for me right now.

Hi,

I use the digitizing software that I originally purchased for my home machine also for my commercial machine. Like you I was utterly shocked at the cost of commercial software systems out there. Fortunately, my dealer is very nice and explained some technical aspects with me to make sure everything is well. There are some little things you have to keep in mind when you digitize for commercial machines though if you’re using home digitizing software. For instance, commercial machines have automatic trimmers that can be triggered using a home software by digitizing several jumps in a row and stuff like that. It’s best to talk to your dealer about this stuff because they would know this for your specific brand of machine because they are not all identical in how they interpret ‘code’ in the digitized file. The Tajima format (*.dst files) are universal and can be used for both home and commercial machines which is certainly good news!
