A tool that I use in keeping track of preferred settings is to laser engrave a media with a small graphic or even just text. In either case I also laser the settings used for that run somewhere on the piece. I then make any changes I think are needed and rerun the same text/image but with the updated settings.
This way you will have pieces of the same media and you will be able to reference them down the road. I have done this on wood, glass, acrylics, marble, ceramic. brass, … Remember the lasered area does not have to be real large and you may get 4 references on a 4 inch square.
