I have been monitoring this site for about 2 years now and occasionally make a contribution. Now I am looking for a bit more visual or hands on info.
I am an optical and electrical engineer with lots of computer programming and some CNC machining experience. I have designed UV laser delivery optics for several microdrilling and micromilling machines. However, no laser engravers. I can guess at how they are designed but have not actually seen one.
My designs for clients are usually 3 axis machines which include a video microscope and illumination coaxial with the laser so that you can watch the action on a monitor or record it on a VCR or computer frame grabber. The video is essential for centering and focusing because the spot size and the depth of focus is usually a few microns.
I am in Laurel, MD and would like to visit somebody in the Maryland, DC, Virginia area. I would hope to be able to share info for mutual education or maybe some other benefit at a later time. My goals are not well defined. I am just shopping for info and ideas in a field that is closely related to something that I already do.
