Vector goo

I’m cutting out ornaments, using 1/8 birch and I’m getting a sticky goo on the back side. Is the power too high, I don’t have a compressor hooked up yet for the air assist, will that help? TIA

Well, sometimes the answer is too simple, I was concentrating on getting all the settings right, just forgot the basics, USE THE VECTOR GRID! Each day is easier, 1 thing ruined, 2 more things learned.

Do yourself a favour, hook up your air assist , it’s actually quite vital for a few reasons 1) It cools the cutting area 2) It stops flaming and fires to a large extend 3) The air flow often promotes better cutting/engraving 4) It blows dust away from the cutting area and thus the laser doesn’t remelt dust back into the engraving 5) It ejects melt and other products from the kerf (the cut line) If you doing wood or perspex , which are highly flammable, you take a huge risk not using air assist.

We often don’t use the vector cutting table cos of flashbacks that mess with the material.

We use an anodised ally sheet at the bottom of the table and make small 8mm pex blocks that support the stuff. The ally sheed absorbs the laser output.

A good idea when cutting wood is to put paper based vinyl application tape on the backside, so resin staining isn’t a problem , we just peel the backside paper off after.
