Default Basic Machine Question?

I currently do all the screen printing and vinyl work for my current employer in my off time. I'm looking at possibly purchasing an embroidery machine just to do small one color logo's on polo shirts, baby t's and fleeces. Is there a small machine out there that will serve this purpose without having to spend thousands or take up a considerable amount of space? I'm not looking to start a new business by any means. The only articles I would be embroidering would actually be for myself, the owners family and occasionally a friend. Hence the desire not to spend thousands for a machine that is basically a hobby. Any info would again be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Scott--sounds like you don't really need a commercial machine. The home sewing machine companys make really nice embroidery-only machines that might be just what you need, and at well under $1000. (If you want to sew too, get a sewing/embroidery combo). The sewing field is generally restricted to around 5x7 (Janome, I know, has an embroidery only that has a little larger field), but that would be big enough for what you siad you'd like to do. AllBrands.com is a good place to see what different brands/models there are. --Liz

Thank you very much for the info and the site referal. I knew I didn't have the need nor want to spend the money for a commercial machine. I just wasn't sure if the home machines would work on clothing also? Every picture you see in all the ads/reviews shows just raw material!!

You can do almost any type of clothing with a home machine, you just might have to get creative on hooping some things. Hats are difficult but doable, if you want to do down the side of pant legs you'll probably have to rip a seam. But shirts, even little kids' ones, are easy. Here is another site for you to look at that will give you lots of great info on home embroidery: http://www.emblibrary.com/el/elproje...age=techniques. --Liz

Thank you very much for the response. I ordered a singer machine and can't wait to get it! The emblibrary link put my mind at ease and I appreciate you passing that along. Now I just need to order some supplies and I should be all set and ready to go!
