Default Deposit Kept

State/Province: South Carolina
City: Camden
Here's a good piece of information for the "tire Kicker's" in the world.

In late August a good sized screen printer paid me a deposit (less than 10%) to hold a large newer dryer for them for approximately 30 days. This is a newer company that I had done business with a couple times in the past. Well I held the unit for 30 days plus an additional 30 days while they scratched their heads and a^%$es, they finally decided they had to have a NEW dryer and that they would pass on the 2008 model. I told them before they made this decision that they may forfeit their deposit (unless I could sell the unit for same money or more).

It turns out the company that owned the dryer wanted it out of the building three days after the "head scratcher, tire kicker, vacillator" finally made a decision. Another party wanted the dryer (one of those awful broker people) at about the same time for same money, however I had to pass on selling it to him, because I had a deposit on the unit.

I ended discounting the dryer for a quick sale and dropping the price the amount of the deposit plus delivery had to be thrown in. Guess who called today wanting the deposit back?

We are all "big boys" here, they spent over $200K on new equipment at last week's show. Now they have decided I am not someone they care to do any more business with in the future......Yeah it's my football and I am leaving and taking it with me.

Deposits that are placed to hold equipment off the market, are exactly that "DEPOSITS TO HOLD THE EQUIPMENT OFF THE MARKET".....if this scares you don't make a deposit, go look and buy when you are ready. This is the same with houses, cars, boats etc...it's called "earnest money" and it is typically "Not Refundable" this is standard in all industries, not just screen printing.

Maybe I got off lightly losing them as a customer....grow up.
