Default In Dire Need of Help With Flexfit Cap Job

I am try to sew flexfit youth wooly caps. They are 6 panel structured caps. I have no problems when I do the regular caps, but when sewing the youth caps the cap seems like it is sitting too far up off the needle plate. I tried using a heavier backing and even doubling it up. Not a single stitch will sew. I need to do 60 of these ASAP, so any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
