Default Embroidered name tags to be sewn on

How do you embroider name tags that can be sewn onto clothes? I see these being done for uniforms a lot but I'm not sure how it's done. I'm new to embroidery so if someone could walk me through the process, I'll be very grateful.

Thanks

HI,

You can either purchase the blank tags from somewhere (online you can find many patch shops... our local athletic lettering shop provides them as well). Once you have the blank ones you can hoop just a few pieces of tear away backing (pellon)... use a spray on adhesive meant for embroidery machine use to attach the tag to the tear away.... sew your name or logo on the tag and then simply tear off the tag from the pellon.... this should still leave enough room to adhere the next tag and repeat.

Otherwise you can sew on material of your choice that has some iron on backing for stiffness added if you like, cut them out by hand and take them somewhere that has a merrow machine to add the nice satin border on the tag?

Does this help at all? Not sure if you meant name patches for work uniforms, ribbon tags for military uniforms, or woven tags to go on the inside of clothing?

Helps somewhat. I meant name patches (with a logo) that go on work uniforms.
Thanks

1.Could you suggest a few online sites where I can purchase the blanks.
2.How much would a completed name patch retail for?
3.Could you adhere the max no of tags in a hoop and sew all the name tags before tearing away. Is there a particular reason why you would want to do a
few at a time?

Thanks

hi, a quick google search for "blank patches" and there are a ton, just go through some to find a price you like for your quantity needed.

Sure, you can fill up the hoop! But the more you do the less likely you will be able to use the same pellon for the next batch, but that is not too much an issue, just rehoop new pellon as you need to. You could even sash pellon if you had a 4, 6 or 12 head.

Retail for, hmmm, that really depends on your area and what your market will bear. Just make sure YOU can live with the price, that you make enough margin to make it a good deal for you. Don't work just to keep yourself busy, make some money.

Also, thinner thread (60wt) is often used for name tags and patches to achieve finer detail.
