I second "ease of use". Also:

User support (email, phone, group list)
Ability to upgrade
Vector import capability
Ability to add desirable options and exclude unwanted options (custom suit for user's needs)
Variety of different fonts that embroidery well
Ability to convert digitized design into 3D format to email to customer as proof
Good help files
