Question Gator brand Clamp Question

When the clamps are closed, are the inside edge of the upper arms supposed to line up with the inside arms of the lower arms? That would seem to make sense so the lower arms don't get sewn on and the upper arms don't stick out into the embroidery field. What I discovered on my recently purchased Gator clamp is that the upper arms, when clamp is closed, hang over into the embroidery field. Since I'm fighting for space on my most recent project, this has turned into a big deal. So,...how do your clamps look like when they are closed? Do they line up on the interior?
