Hi Amy,

I just started out myself. I decided to go with a Printa 770 6 color silkscreen. They have a all in one bundle package with a starter kit that is pretty much everything you need to get started. You just need a room big enough for the silkscreen, maybe a garage or backyard with water for a wash out station. and a way to cure, or dry your prints. I use the Printa systems conveyer belt dryer, it was multiple settings and adjustments so you can make sure your prints never wash out after the first wash. I would say the hardest part about starting out, is your artwork prep. If you have experience with illustrator or Photoshop, your one step closer. A good positive is what you need for a good print. So a good printer that can print a deep rich black is best! Hope this helps you out. Feel free to ask me any questions, as I am still figuring it all out as well....

There is a lot of information out there but it can be hard for newbie's to digest and make any sense out of. The best thing is to hit the forums at first. Do a lot of reading and asking questions. Then if you have the funds it would be a good idea to take a class on screen printing. There are several good ones around the country.

I would have to agree with Preston. A class that gets you into a real world printing environment is worth the 3 or 4 hundred dollars for a class. Ryonet has them in various parts of the country. So does Texsource and a few other places. I personally took one in an actual shop to get the feel of real world printing which was valuable.
