Default Help, please - rib knit beanie caps

Hi -

My son's soccer team just advanced to the state 'final four' and the boosters handed out knit acrylic beanie hats to all the players. My son would like me to embroider the players' numbers on them so they aren't identical. I need to figure out how to do this in a day (they play again on Tuesday).

Does anyone have any experience working on acrylic knit? It is a fine gauge rib knit, double thickness, very stretchy. Do you have any recommendations for needle/topping/backing?

TIA!!!

- Linda

we just did a couple of hundred of these.

tear away backing. i normally take one sheet and fold in half to double the density. like u said, this stuff is stretchy so holding it still is important.

then, when digitizing the number, you really need to put a good underlay down. a simple outer edge or center stitch aint going to do it. you need to pack the material down to create a stable base. i would do zigzag at a minimum with an edge run. then, you should be able to so the top satin as normal.

my .02. hope that helps. :-)

Wouldn't some solvy be in order here? Just curious because I have never done these either.

Thanks,

We do a TON of beanies .... on text you want to use cutaway because when worn, you don't want the words to stretch with the head of the person. lol

We use solvy on top, and 3oz cutaway ... works great.
