How is this effect achieved? **NEWBIE QUESTION**

Please don't judge me because I don't know...I am an embroiderer who recently (less than a week ago) added a heat press (Hottronix) to my assembly of machines. This is the sweatshirt that made me a convert. I stood in line for this thing for 20+ minutes and paid $25 for the ten seconds of effort it took to press it. Sold...lol. But an add on was the glitter paint that the guy selling them was using as an add on ($3 more-bringing my total to $28!). He squirted this glitter looking paint out of a what looked like a clear bottle. He put it on the transfer in irregular lines then took a business card and smeared it flat and then heat pressed it on. I have worn it tons since Feb and it hasn't washed out a bit. I would like to use this as an add on when I take my heat press out on the road to a kids rodeo next month. Here is the real newbie question...what exactly would that be and where would I get some??

Did I mention that I bought 4 (FOUR!) of these sweatshirts-one for each of my nephews and my sister and I!! And I wasn't alone in line...dang. That is some ca$h that I want in on!

Well... based on your description, he took some liquid plastisol and applied it to the transfer. The black ink is gelled plasitsol... so it's really just two layers of plastisol applied in one heat pressing.
Sounds like a great way to get a custom look.

I'd go with Crystalina, it's much runnier and would squirt better out of a bottle. That Union might be thin enough to squirt too but I've never used it.

OK, sir, now that we are on the right track, can I trouble you with one more probably inane question? This is the back of the shirt. This I believe he put on free due to me already spending $100+. It was black out of the same squirt type bottle. He used the transfer paper from the front design-folded in half-wrote on the farm name in this very unique (read: sloppy) handwritting and folded the other size over on it to get the mirror image and then press it down on my shirt. Would it be the same type of stuff? And if I could trouble you for another link so I get the right thing...that would be the best message board experience I have ever had. Thank you soooooooo much

As a p.s. i recall that the glitter was very thick. If that matters. He was a kinda older guy and he struggled with squirting it out of the bottle. I figured it was empty but maybe as you said, it was thick...I can't remember about the black.

You might get lucky and get your answers here but I doubt it. Most of us here are commercial printers and what you are looking for is info on heat pressing techniques in a mall kiosk, not something you will see around this forum. But I would suggest you go to tshirtforums . com that forum has a lot of unique smaller type applications than here.

BTW since you have the heat press now you can use a resource such as transfer press or stahls to pre cut just about anything you can think of on all types of specialty materials.

I am not a mall kiosk. Is that a dig? As I stated before, to take with me rather than pack up one of the embroidery machines. For youth events like rodeo or calf shows.

What are you talking about Megan is already playing with the idea and up selling it to a few of our retail customers. She hopes to have someting on the schdule later this or early next week.

No it was not a dig nor meant to scare you away, in fact I was trying to point you in a direction that might be of better help for you. Like I said most of us here print traditionally very very few of us would know anything about hand applying in the manner you described. If you for some reason took my advice in the wrong way sorry but I do wish you luck.

Thanks. You know how it is...message boards can be kinda cut throat places. It is difficult not to have your guard up if you have been around the internet any at all. lol.

Still open to suggestions on the black ink...
