Re: husqvarna designer 1
Hi. I have the same machine. No dongle is needed to run the machine. The software won't work without a dongle, though, and it should have come with your software. If it didn't, your software is basically useless, because you need the specific dongle that that software is registered to, not just any old viking donge. If you do have the dongle and bought it used, you will have to have the registration info from the previous owner so you can "activate" the dongle (I'm assuming you bought the software used--if you bought it new, you should have no trouble with it). If you don't have a dongle for the software, I would recommend cutting your losses and choosing a different, more friendly software. Embird is one of the few that you can easily format your disks for use in the Designer 1 (It's what I use for both my Tajima and Designer 1) and it's free to try, inexpensive to buy, easy to use.
You should be able to go to viking's website and download any updates to the machine itself--that has nothing to do with the software. There's been one update that I know of, and you just download it to your computer, transfer it to a floppy, then to your machine from the floppy. Be sure to get the exact instructions from the website, because there is a specific routine to follow (when you turn on the machine, etc.).
Good luck! And enjoy your Designer--it's a great machine! --Liz
