I would call this person from Rhino Graphics and find out if the bid is legit...(if they will talk to you). Sometimes the customer will 'play' you to try and get a better deal. If the lower bid is for real, then I would sell the art to them at a premium.

Sorry... did not see that post when I made my suggestion. You really have to walk away from a non-profitable job even though you have a fair amount of time and money invested. Unfortunately there is not much else you can do and if the job just ties up your production w/o being profitable believe me you are much better off passing on it. But-I would charge premium for the art.

I agree with Preston on this one.

you can definatly make money on the job ... but the question is as follows: if lets say you are working in an actually store and not your garage and you are paying rent, utilities, taxes, employment and so on...then you shouldnt be taking that much risk for that low of a margin...now you give this price to this customer today and tomorrow when he comes he wants the same price and he becomes an low margin customer.... I would either upsell him or just move on like the other said as your time could probably be used better with other clients.

This is the only time I will try to fix pricing for a customer like that. If I know he is repeat and will keep feeding my low times with jobs.

In any case I feel like the industry is killing eachother and we all will loose till the rebirth of the SPI lol.

Let's not jump on Varsity too quick. You say you could do it for $2.95 but we don't even know what the job is. It could be 8 color 4 locations. Could you still make a profit at $2.95?

The right price might be somewhere inbetween though.

I love opportunities like this. I always let the job walk. I am really nice and make it easy for the customer to come back next time. I ask for the opportunity to quote there next needs. I would charge heavily for the art but not excessively.

The reason is... 9 times out of 10 the other guy f**ks it up or deliver's late and the client is happy to come back later and pay our reasonable price. In the long term you win and you build quality clients.

You are correct that he did not give the print requirements so it could have been one color, one location or more like you stated. We do not know at this point.
I did read his post. The shirt was $2.95 - the shipping was $0.30

I do agree that you should always be looking at improving your efficiencies or you will go the way of the dodo.
