I'm sooo f'in mad, what would you do?
So I've been going back and forth with one of my customers for a few weeks now, trying to get the artwork on their order just right for what was going to be 1000 shirts. They said another company printed them before for $3.50 each, but they were white. This time they are colored. So I told them I could do them for $4.50 (with free shipping to Charlotte) if they got 2000. So she had a budget meeting this morning and her "regional" told her to call some guy in TX called Rhino graphics. He told her he would do them at $2.95 each + $.30 each for shipping. First of all, the cheapest Gildan shirt right now at normal price is $2.99!!!! I know my rep will give me a better price, but that's MY profit, you don't price off of that...you price off what shirt cost already is. So she wants me to beat his price or they will "make" her use them. WTF dude. I spent all my time with this company doing artwork, oh btw, she said she told the "regional" guy that they would have to basically "buy" my artwork from me. I never said it was for sale. Oh, and they want these by the 20th...of april. uhh yeah.

Re: I'm sooo f'in mad, what would you do?
$2.99 isn't what I would pay, but at broder bros. a gildan 8000 (which is normally NOT what I use) it says the regular price is $2.99 on blacks, the sale price is $2.73. I'm sure your price is the same with Broder, and I haven't checked other suppliers yet. Believe me if someone is getting better pricing than that after I spent $80K with broder bros last year, I will be even more PO'd. Like I said though, I know my sales rep will give me a better price, but it's the principle. If you are printing at $2.95 a shirt, good luck staying in business cause the prices are gonna continue to rise....

I'm sure I can get G2000's for like $2.35 from my rep like I did earlier this week, but still, this guy just seriously jacked up my profit marg

Re: I'm sooo f'in mad, what would you do?
I say call their bluff. If the other guy can generate artwork, shoot screens, print the shirt, box them and give them to UPS and they will arrive by the 20th -- good luck to all involved and chalk it up to experience. There is no way I would let them have the artwork so someone else can meet a deadline. I'd also do my best to stall them for a day or so just to make it harder. Remember, we don't have to have every order, only the profitable ones. And I totally agree, it's the principal. But I'm sure you've been around long enough to know that not everyone's definition of what is right and fair meets the test industry-wide.

Re: I'm sooo f'in mad, what would you do?
Pain in the *** customers like that are everywhere, it sucks major ***. The moment I realize they are gonna be a pain, I charge them for everything up front. In the end you either make the money for your time on the artwork or you let them go to your "cheap competition", in the end your competition WILL end up losing money off that customer in the future, they will constantly want a better deal.
