Default Let's talk about health

With business keeping us all busy and where everything nowadays is about work, work, work do you still have time (more like make time) to exercise and check on your health?

I'm really guilty of eating anything and everything that's on the table and I eat a lot but my lifestyle's sedentary and I'd like to keep moving to make sure I get rid of those unwanted bulges here and there.

What do you guys do to lose weight? What food do you eat without feeling guilty?Do you do exercises? What kind?

I recently joined a local Crossfit group ... THEY ARE TRYING TO KILL ME! (so I believe). Not sure I will continue with it as a long term regimen. But they have taught me to get out of my chair after every design or two and do simple things... like 10 squats, or 10 pushups, or go up and down the stairs 3 times.. etc. nothing major at each time, but it adds up! It has been one month now and I feel more energetic and "fit"... could just be a placebo effect but it has to help... little things here and there hopefully will add up.

I also have a vegetable garden that needs attending every day... either watering, weeding, harvesting, etc... that gets me outside for at least 45 minutes to an hour each day... and I find it therapeutic.

Lastly as I live in a small neighborhood in a large city I ride my bike everywhere from Grocery Shopping, restaurants, and even the local cigar lounge I frequent (hey some vices are worth keeping for me! ha) I dont do long bike rides, just local stuff, but again I think over time it has to help?

I feel the same way, I feel like I sit too much in the office and that's making my tummy grow bigger. At the end of the day I feel tired to do some exercises so I go to sleep instead.

That's another way to look at it. I'm sure once you're left with sore muscles and aching joints, you'd think that it's all worth it...or not. LoL. I have a lady friend that does crossfit too and she's loving the intensity of each work out. She's been doing it for almost 5 months (I think).

Wow, I wish I had that much free time. I'm slumped between work, home, children, family, and other commitments that my work out is getting groceries loaded into my SUV. Yes, I do all the work at home - laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc. but I don't break a sweat doing the things I've been doing for years.

I think I'm going to do bike rides going to groceries or running my usual errands. I do groceries in bulk so running errands like paying bills, small purchases are ideal for bike rides.

The other things I do to save time so I can get to exercise on the treadmill at home are:
1. I do groceries in bulk (have I stressed that fact enough?LoL)
2. I cook meals in bulk, use a crockpot for some, and freeze them for a week's worth of reheating meals.
3. I do laundry at night while I review files from work.
4. I switched to a doctor that has a patient portal so I can request refills online instead of lining up at the pharmacy (it's the best EHR feature if you ask me).
5. I clean the house every other day and not everyday (except for the kitchen). When you live with kids, it's hard to keep up with them.

These things that I do, give me about an hour on the treadmill each day but I don't always do an hour...the fridge and my laptop seem more attractive to me..

I used to be like that - work, sleep, work, sleep. I had no other life outside of those two and then I got married. That's where my priorities changed. If you don't have the time to move around, you really need to MAKE time or your health may suffer.

I was getting fat and lazy ( with my health) and then a number of things happened in my life. I was getting out of breath , my sciatic nerve get trapped, my knee was giving me trouble and I could hardly move and my blood pressure was all over the place.
So I went to the doctor and he told me that I was too fat. Simple as that.
I looked at my life style, work , work, work and then home to sleep. Crazy.
Time for a change. First I stopped working such long hours. ( Yes it can be done). Always take the weekend off. I joined a Fitness Studio. I stopped eating sweet things. I cut down the sugar in my tea and coffee.( I bought sugar cubes and now only use one lumps in each cup ). I ride my bike when ever I go out in the town. And I have started to learn to dance ( dont laugh, you really sweat when doing the waltz).
In the last year I have lost 12Klg. I can walk wherever I want without getting out of breath and I feel fit.
But the best of all is that I can get more work done in the day because I feel metally fitter and can work more efficiently.
Only down side is that I have to throw away half my wardrobe and buy new clothes. :-)

I recently received an early gift of a FitBit. So here I was thinking I was being pretty active, running up and down the stairs to my office many times a day, working in the garden, riding my bike to the grocery, etc.

HECK NO! According to this thing I need to do a LOT more. oops. Friends of mine will do between 10,000 and 13,000 steps per day.. so far I have maxed out at less than 4,000!

I do like that the thing beeps at you every once in a while to remind you to get up off the chair!
