Default Looking for Screen Printing Equipment

I am located in Alabama. I have a direct to garment printer and embroidery machines. I am looking to add screen printing to my business. I'd like to start with at least a 2-color operation (maybe up to 4). I am looking for equipment that I can purchase to learn the process. I'd like to spend $4000 or less. Is it possible to find all the equipment that I need for this amount without buying something that I will regret in the long run?

Hey Goldie,

I have a 6 color National press and a Lawson Dryer for sale in your price range. I would recommend a 6 color as you won't outgrow it. You will outgrow a 4 color.

Here's some more info: http://www.newellsigns.com/equipment.htm

Goldie, I am from Alabama as well and also in the same boat. I have seen your post and wanted to first say hello but second recommend that you go automatic. All of the contract printers that I use have a manual that just sits and collects dust. One of my employees runs a manual at his friends from time to time and says it is a horrible experience. I know the cost is more, but I am having to bite the bullet and get an auto as well. We are an embroidery company that has realized finally how much money we are losing by contracting out our screen printing. If I would have done in house last year my equipment would be paid for by now? If you come across anything that you didn't want email me since were in the same state and I will do the same.

I respectfully disagree with Digicom.... maybe.
I would agree with Neato that a 6-color manual would be your best choice.
Get yourself a (Workhorse, Hopkins, Lawson, M&R) 6-color, a conveyor with at least a 4 foot heat chamber and a decent size (18" x 18") flash cure.
All the other equipment/ accessories you can piece together as you grow.

I would recommend that you go automatic if you are:
- consistently running 6 or more colors
- consistently running quantities in the 250+ range
- consistently printing 5+ days per week (6 colors and 250+ pieces)
- have about 600 square feet and $25,000 that you have no other use for.... and then you still have to buy the dryers

Otherwise, a GOOD 6-color manual will do you fine... and you'll be a better printer in the end.

My $.02.
