Default Need Help!!!!!!

Hi Everyone, I just found this site a few minutes ago and I need some desperate help!!!!! I have been looking to start a "little" embroidery business from my house. We really live in a rural area and don't have anything within a 60 mile radius. I am active in my kids schools and have already had several people inquire about "big " jobs they were interested in. I have looked at the Husqvarna Designer SE and actually liked the salesman and the support though was wondering will this machine be big enough? Of course he says yes though I know nobody with embroidery machines so would so LOVE help and feedback. I was told the Designer SE was $6000 and the 3D Prof. software $2000. I would rather not spend more than $10,000 start-up . I also don't have the faintest idea what digitizing is? Can someone explain that in laymans terms? Should I go with a home machine and is it big enough? Thanks, Michell

It really depends on what you want to accomplish as to what the answer is. If all you want to do is put names on things and maybe add a little clip art, then you can choose about whatever you want. I think all machines will be capable of doing that. If you really want to jump into the world of commercial embroidery, then you need to think bigger. I own a Melco Amaya and it's companion Design Shop Pro+ digitizing software. I have been in the screenprinting industry for the last 16 years and we desided to get into embroidery 2 years ago. My Melco is a little bit more expensive than I think you are looking to spend but you can get factory refurbished machines for not a lot more than that. It is the fastest machine in the industry.

I have never used another machine so I really can't say much about the rest but I enjoy my machine. The digitizing software is easy to use and learn. Another nice feature of this machine is that it is computer driven. I can make changes/adjustments in Design Shop and load them directly into the machine.

To answer the digitizing question, that is merely the term used for describing the creation of the artwork for embroidery. It's basically telling the machine what stitch to use, what direction to go, and when to change colors.

I hope some of this helps.

For a homebased business I started with my Brother Innov-is 4000D which I am now selling on here.. It served me great and that was to be my startup machine till I found an already established embroidery business that I purchased... The Brother innov-is is the top of the line in its class and mine is going at a bargain ..it has only 34 hours use on it and is in perfect condition.. if you are interested email me and I can give you more details if you don't already know this machine.. The price is very negotiable because I have absolutely no space for it anymore and it's sitting idle looking for an owner who will love it as much as I did. .. my email is [email address] ..
It can hook up directly to the computer by USB and you can size and create all kinds of combinatuons with it's existing lettering and fonts and the cards that will come with it.. OR you can download all kinds of designs right off the internet.. I did not find that I needed any digitizing software at all.. would have sat here not used !

Do not buy a little machine. If you are not quick to jump you will be able to find a 2 head multi needle machine for around 5,000. A good start would be a 2 head superstar by melco but it doesnt do hats. This sales rep is trying to sell you something bad. Look at all the little Melco ep1 machines on the market. That should tell you something right there.

Down side to the home machines are they are to slow and have very limited sewing area. No jacket backs. Give me an email and I will tell you more. I live in texas and know a guy in pennsylvania who probably can help you find a machine. He also services them.

I agree buy a used commercial machine. I started with a Pfaff 7570 and out grew it on my first order. I too was in a rural area, and paid 100% of start up with a new single head with in three years. If you have a school district to start with as a customer, find out from there posted financials what hey spend a year with other decorators and use that to help guide you on your voulme you might expect. Also don't fail to starat out offering embrodiery, screen print, and add specialties. You can contract out the the later 2 and even some of your embroidery and still make a nice profit. Start fromthe begining getting your customers coming to you for all their specialty needs.
