Question New with question about Singer 221-1

Hello there.

I'm looking for advice about Singer 221-1 sewing machines. I have a few that were handed down to me. As I only need one, I'm thinking to sell the other. I heard that some embroiderers like the Singer 221-1. I have one manufactured in Jan 1941; the other was made in Feb 1946. Would one of these be useful--or more useful than the other--for embroidering? They do not have any special embroidery attachments.

Thanks very much.

Grace

I don't know that you will find much expertise here in that regard, as this is primarily an industrial.electronic machine embroidery forum. However, I'll try to give my two cents!

These machines will be used for 'hand machine embroidery', if that's not too odd a way to describe it, and are liked as they are very simple and easy to control the speed if they are electric powered or you have the treadle (once you get the hang of them!). That means you can frame your fabric and guide it around quite accurately to create shapes, patterns and fill, although I believe they won't do satin stitch as they just do a simple stitch. Of course, there may be an attachment to do that, so don't take my word for it.

Given the numbers made, I'm certain parts will still be cheap and easy to obtain, so the best one to keep is the one that runs smoothest and sews best. I believe there is a Facebook group that relates to this model, so you'll probably get the best advice there.
