newbie and need help

hello embroidery world. i am very new to this and just jumped in without knowing how to do anything. i bought a brand new embroidery machine(pr600II). i have never embroidered before and just bought the machine because i saw it on t.v. anyway, this thing looks complicated to me. the first things i want to do is some hats. i want to do a simple design bu dont know if im going to do things right. i have the pe design 7. i think i might have done a design right but how do i check it before i do it on a hat? do i just start on a hat and hope it comes out right?

i think you can find a frabric that the same material as the hats. then sew the logo in the fabric to see that is it going ok.
if it has any problems, tell what problem you meet then let the digitizer edit the file, then sew again. if it is ok, go on the hats pls.
