Question Newbie - advice needed: machine & software ?'s

Hello,

I am very, very new to the embroidery world, as in I've never touched an embroidery machine before. However, I am starting up a business where I am making goods for special needs children. Such as bandana bibs, large terry bibs, extra large changing pads, converting pants to having snaps and so forth for these special needs kids.

I am closely working with a good friend of mine, who has a non profit org, that is providing FAA regulated seats for these kids on loan, so that they are able to travel and the parents aren't burdened with purchasing the seats, which are upwards of 1000. We want to work together, where I embroidery his org logo onto stuff for him to sell on his website, to go towards the funding of the org.

As I said, I'm very new at this and this is starting out VERY slowly. I can't afford to spend several grand on a machine at this time, so I was looking at this one, a home machine for starters. I realize I'm WAY below the skill level and so forth of most of you here, but need your help on getting started.

I don't foresee doing massive embroidering, other than for my friend with our collaboration and for my kids/gifts for family and friends. Am I nuts for looking at this machine to learn on/get started? Also, since I"m so new to this world, I see that there is digitizing services out there. Would I be foolish to purchase software to convert his logo or my .jpg pictures to work with this machine, or can I pay someone to convert those to a file for me and I just use them from there on out? Or is that how that even works? Sorry I sound so ignorant here.

Thank you sincerely for all your help!

Kacie
