Default Outline only or Solid Embroidery?

I think the number one clarification we have to ask for designs we are sent to digitize is ...... "Is the logo solid embroidery or 1 color outline only?" or put another way "Do the white areas within the art get thread or do you want the fabric to show through? "

the answer I just got back from one client was: "I think it will look best as part solid embroidery.".

UH?????

Are you speaking of background fill? I always state either to fill the background or not to fill background.

Hate such clients....they think they know everything and when you ask them to clarify themselves they take it as an insult or blame you for delaying their order.

when you get a silhoutte design to digitize, do you put in a plain simple fill in one direction or do you put in definition?

or is it our duty as a digitizer to again do the homework on behalf of the customer to ask them how they want it?

I just did one yesterday and put in definition without asking and according to me thats a better looking design but the client came back and told me they want a plain fill.... is this my mistake that I didnt ask or clients mistake that they didnt mention? I didnt charge them again for the new design but have noted on my end that this client doesnt provide adequate info and continous negligence on their part will force me to raise their rate.

this can be tricky too.. with standard lead times as short as they are nowadays... any clarification like this can be seen as a digitizer's way of delaying an order or at least delaying the start of the clock. But if you dont ask up front and you pick the wrong answer then you are delaying the order anyway because it comes back to you and you get to do EXTRA work now...

On the one color design and adding details it just depends for me... if it is a horse and rider for example I will do just solid plain fill as I am not confident enough in my ability to separate the legs or saddle from a solid black area. But if the design is such that adding dimension could be an obvious choice then I will do it just to keep myself entertained... more fun than just tracing a shape.

Funny, I am just the opposite. If it is an animal I will do detail in the silhouette but things like cars etc... I just do the shape.

All files I send I put a square off color behind the logo. Then specify that is substrate color. Never had a problem with doing it that way yet.
