PE Design
I have PE version 6 and have been given a design to sew out that is DST. I have never imported another format to pes. Will I have to re-digitize?

You do not have to re-digitize. Import the DST file and then save as a .pes then sew.

Yes, thats right !
You dont need to redigitize the design. Just converting the format will do.
