Printing with a Brother gt 541

I'm thinking about getting a gt541, but one question.

Does anything have to be do to the shirt before printing it? I have read posts about pre treating? If you have to pretreat what is involved? What type of chemical and can it be done without an expesive machine?

I have the brother if you are interested in contract work let me know. The problem with these printers are when they sit is when you have problems with them. That is why we like to offer contract work to keep the machine running.
