sewing on childrens clothes

I saw the info on this site once before, but cannot find it now. I have been asked to embroider a bunch of hoodies for kids age 2 and up. I ran across some info on this site about certain requirements that must be met when doing childrens clothing, but I can't find it now. Can anyone remember what these requirements were.

I think you are referring to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSV) and their rules about children's clothing, right? I cannot find the specific rules in the mass of info, but you can google CPSV to get to the website...

In a nutshell if you even add a button you are required to comply with the CPSIA, some items of embellishment have been blanket approved, some you may rely on manufacturers compliance/testing sheets, other items you will be required to have your product lab tested by a third party. This will cost big $$$. You will have to read and learn so you know what is required as you will be the one arrested, fined and/or imprisoned for any violations. There are two specific age groups 3 and under (under 4) also 12 and under ( under 13).

Additionally, at this point you are required to mark any and all items with complete contact information for your business and keep records of items made with what products.

CPSIA in a nutshell is an absolute mess .... there are a million grey area's and things are just in general a pain. I refuse decoration on anything "youth" unless its DTG.

Generally, you will have to use tear away stabilizers and certain thread. I do believe you have to use the fire retardant thread, but don't hold me to that.

I'm not sure about complete contact info, but, yes, you do need at least something that clearly identifies you as the "manufacturer"
