please make sure the design is digitized for leather, not so dense to cut the leather out like a cookie cutter when the file is done. Sometimes, depending on the leather it is better to use Wedge needles instead of sharps or balls... this helps avoid the cutting of the leather as well. We sew lots of leather and I still think the trick is in the digitizing.

I'm new here, I hope you can help me. I'm looking for a machine that can embroider on leather. I've been considering the Brother PR620. Do you know if this machine can handle leather? Are there other machines that can embroider leather? I appreciate any advice you can give me.

With "Proper Digitizing & Needle" all current heavy duty embroidery machines will embroider leather. Avoid densities that act as a cookie cutter, one trick that I use is to sew a sample on stiff vinyl upholstery material, if it looks like it may be cutting the material it is too dense.

Definately low stitch density and wedge needles (a hassle but well worth it unless you want to be billed for the leather jacket) and no backing required.
