Wilcom http://www.wilcom.com.au/ is probably one of the best digitizing softwares on the market. They are having a promotional until the end of the year.

If you are looking to do editing and names Embird is good and unless things have changed it doesn't cost too much. Simple user friendly. Now if you are planning on digitizing I agree, go with Wilcom.

The prices fluctuate and depend on who you are dealing with. There are five levels and if you buy one you can always upgrade at the price difference. The top level is listed at $15,000. "You have to do a lot of digitizing to justify the list price" During the promotionals Wilcom will cut that price by as much as 70%.

I have ES2 and paid about $2,000 with a trade in. It depends on who you deal with. If you would like to talk with my contact send me your information and I will put you in touch with her.
