Default Tajima color change cam question

I took my machine (tfmx-1501) apart to check to see if the reciprocator was broken. In putting the needle bar plate back on I must have messed something up because now the needles do not line up correctly with the hole in the needle plate. I have adjusted the potentiometer on 8 to center and 15 is acceptable but if I switch to needle 1 the needle is way off, enough to hit the side of the needle plate. I don't understand why there is so much difference in the needle spacing and I'm wondering if I didn't get something turned or lined up correctly when I put it back together.
Any ideas?
