Default Thread wraps aorund needle

Hi all. I'm noticing that my thread is starting to wrap around my needle. So when you thread it everything is good going straight through the eye towards the back. Then I'll so a bit and when it clips the thread it will have a hard time picking up the bobbin. No wonder because everytime it does this it's because the thread is wrapped around the needle. Does anyone know what the cause of this is? It's something that's just started happening today but it's driving me nuts with every other cut I find it's like this. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

It's a commercial machine.

IS your needle in backwards? There is a front and back of the needle, not being smart, but I sometimes forget that too.

nah, I first thought that too. After posting that yesterday I went and did about 20 logos and really paid attention to when it was doing it. It's right at the beginning on the first revolution. The top feed and presser foot move and then after 1 revolution it engages the needle. It's creating a loop for the needle to drop down through. But tonight it did that and kept sewing and seemed to do a better job than yesterday.

What kind of machine do you have? Check the needle depth.

Hi, a Brother BAS-416a. I've got some problems with it and was unable to use but now can use on slowest speed (500) with hardly a thread break. But when up on 800 it's a guaranteed thread break and skips after 1000 stitches or so. I've replaced the hook, had a local guy come and look at it and he got it to where it is now timing wise. I'm pretty sure it's in the bobbin binding because if I replace the pigtail holder that I have with a new one it will work great, but not grab the thread after the cut because it needs the pigtail to hold it up there.

I would check the needle bar height and timing. If the thread is still wrapping around the needle it may indicate that the hook is grabbing the thread too low and is pulling it past the point of the needle.
I am pretty sure that you need the bobbin case with the pigtail on this machine. Are you using one without a pigtail?
