Veteran Decorative Artist new to DTG seeking Connectivity

Greetings to all who enter and dwell here.
I'm excited about the latest technology involving decorative embellishment
on garments of every description. For 35 years I've owned a company providing
photo replicative painted finishes on historic and custom high end architecture,
luxury motor vessels, classic automobiles, and other things.

30 or so years.
I'm looking to retire from this rather demanding trade, and use my design skills and artistic abilities to enter into a new approach at gainful employment.
I've been to one ISS show recently, and saw several DTG printers demonstrated.
After several weeks of research, I've come to the conclusion that this is a very high initial investment venture, even before any garment stock is ordered.
I'm really drawn to the Viper by DTG, because the ink delivery system seems the most reasonably priced. However, I've read that the print drivers are being fazed out, and it's too big to fit through a standard door frame. The Viper 2 is smaller, but it seems they have a cartridge only ink supply system. I'm also seeing the value in its large format platen, and 2-4 print capability.
I'm not chained to any one printer, but need a machine I won't grow out of in six months. My investment in all of this isn't unlimited, and my goal is to take the printer to events, to vend one off, on the spot images. I want to purchase a printer NOT made in China, and the PT, and HP gear gently used, to still have funding for garments. If any of you seasoned dtg people have any gear for sale, or sage wisdom you'd care to impart, I'd be eternally grateful.
