vista verses futura software

I am now using a vista platform since my xp crashed and died on Christmas Eve
I have done everything including contacting Singer still waiting for reply....
I have installed patch and nothing works
comes up connection error..and machine not turned on ...even tried changing usb cords and ports and still nothing...
PLEASE HELP AND ALL WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED  : :
