Question What to charge?

Hi, I am trying to do some embroidery part time and am not sure what to charge. Is there a set rate? Does it depend on the type of fabric being embroidered on...i.e. denim, leather....

Is there a set up fee? If I have a design digitized is there a markup..any information would be appreciated...don't want to over charge, but also, don't want to under charge either. Thanks.

I think 1.00 per thousand stitches is about standard
digitizing normally is about 2.50 per thousand stitch design

Thanks for the reply. Do you charge differently for embroidering on leather? I was asked to put a logo on leather total size was 10 inches by 4 inches (approx. 28000 stitiches) and it turned out beautiful...I was a little scared, they were very happy just wasn't sure what to charge.

my charge would be the same for leather as anything else but... i get my customers to sign a waiver for leather. punching holes in leather is not one of my favorite things to do. normally, the file needs to be digitized specifically for leather allowing more space between the needle punches. if the holes are too close, its like taking scissors to the leather and cutting out a hole. leather afterall is a solid surface unlike a cotton shirt whose fibers move with sewing.

I would charge more for leather because of the special handling it requires. Not every embroiderer will embroider leather, not every digitizer will digitize for it and it requires special hooping so I would take advantage of this and charge more.
