I'd go with the vastex. I've got an 8 color v2000 and it is a tank. I don't know much about Riley Hopkins, but if you can get a 6-4 brand new for $2900 I'd hazard to guess it has much cheaper construction.

Vastex, over ANY manual out there!
It will beat you up if you get into a fight with it!
Holds perfect registration all day long.
If you have the extra $, get the Auto Flash w/foot pedal too, couldn't do without it when we use our manual press. If not, save up for it...you will be glad you did, I promise you.
Check on Ebay, you can sometimes find some killer deals on them.

I hate my RH 6/4. Joy stick registration is the dumbest gimmick.

Since you are willing to spend $3500 on a used press, why don't you consider my "like new" Antec Legend 6/6??? Arguably the FINEST manual press made for holding registration. Please see my ad here on Digitsmith...."For Sale in Northern CA, near San Francisco"

Yeah, that would be a great press too!

Like I stated earlier, I've got a Vastex v2000. One downside is that they don't make autos and their pallets aren't interchangeable with m&r, workhorse etc. So if you move to an auto later on and use your manual as a sample press your capabilities will vary between machines. I think rh is in the same boat... In fact I'm pretty sure they have really crappy wooden pallets. But that is the only reason I'm considering switching brands. If you are just printing manual, Vastex is great.

Get the Vastex they are built like a tank. Our Shop has two hopkins presses and nylon bolts that hold registration are a pain, the wooden pallets warp and you can't level them, and i would take micro over joystick any day.

You can always upgrade pallets, but you're right, that joystick reg system is terrible.
