Re: Which Brother machine?
I owned an Innovis 1500D up until the end of last year before I finally upgraded to a commercial machine for doing business on the side. I demoed the 1500D and 4000D extensively at my local dealer before I finally decided to go with the 1500D. Although it would be nice to have a colored LCD, black and white is not an issue at all. You can connect both the 1500D and 4000D directly to your PC by USB cable. The colors of embroidery designs on your PC will vary because it depends on how the designs are saved. Colors are really just representations or guides anyways. You can follow the color chart/sequence the digitizer provides or you can also substitute to the nearest color or change the color completely to what you want. The two major differences between the two machines: The 4000D has a much larger embroidery area - 12 inches x 7 inches (300mm x 180mm). The embroidery area for the 1500D is 10 1/4 inches x 6 1/4 inches (260mm x 160mm). The other major difference is the machine embroidery/stitching speed. The 1500D's maximum speed is 800 stitches per minute and the 4000D's maximum is 1,000 stitches per minute.

Are the differences between 1500D and 4000D so important?

There are other differences between both machines. 4000D has more to offer (more extra features), but the two I mentioned above are the most major, at least to me it is. If money is not an issue, obviously, I would have liked to own the 4000D. The one thing you have to remember is that both machines produce exactly the same embroidery/stitch quality. They are both great machines.
