Laserpro/pinnacle user

I am new to the laser engraving industry. I purchased a pinnacle m-25. (a.k.a laserpro mercury manufactured by GCC in Taiwan. Does anyone else have one?

I’ve got the laserpro explorer.

How do you like it? Is it working well for you? I found out about it after I bought my mercury.

I have an Pinnacle M-40 which I purchased 7 months ago.

How do you like? Any problems? What software are you using? How has the service been from Sign Warehouse. I’m going to be there today for some training.

There have been far more drivers bugs than there should have been. Laserpro’s tech service has been useless!!!!! At least 3 times i had a problem which any competent tech service should have been able to help me out with, but instead i was left to figure it out for myself. For example, the DPI settings are not what there labeled in the driver. There really is no 125 DPI, its actually 50 pixels per centimeter and if you send a 125 DPI file to the laser you will get banding, but if you send it 127 DPI (50 DPC) it comes out perfect. Tech service for months were enable to answer why I had banding @ 125 dpi in spite of the fact it was 100% reproducible. When I talked to them on the phone after a months, it was clear that they hadn’t even tried to replicate my results, they were still giving stupid advice typical of someone who had never been in the graphics business. Laserpro technical service SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

Another gripe I have with laserpro is they refuse to supply documentation to there modifications to the HPGL language. I’m a programmer and I feel there are a few things I’d be able to do with my laser if I could directly output to the laser rather than draw something up in a program. The laser follows the HPGL standard but has a few extensions which I’m forced to reverse engineer if I want to understand them. Closed systems went out 20 years ago. I suspect there documentation sucks as bad as there tech support, so they don’t have anything which they could send out, but it sounds better to call it a trade secret.

The hardware is great, its the software and support that SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

As long as you can figure everything out by yourself you’ll be fine.

I had one.. a Laserpro Mercury. I had problems with both it and SignWarehouse. I now have a Universal. I don’t know… maybe I just had a lemon. But I do know that others have had issues with SWH.

Hope things go better for you than they did with me.

I actually just visited sign warehouse and I mentioned to them that I had heard they had problems with service etc. The tech that I was with readily admitted that they had had problems. They have since added more techs, increased parts inventory blah blah blah….what I saw today pleased me, but there is a small kernel of skepticism that remains. I will see after I have had some real world experience with it. Saying something is one thing…doing what you said is another. If they do what that told me today that they would do, then there should not be a problem.
