Versa laser settings

I’ve searched the archives and web sites for Power, Speed, PPI and Z values for a Versalaser for different materials but can’t find any. Does everyone guard the settings they find out through trial and error? I just didn’t fancy taking weeks do all sorts of trials. I know each laser made by any manufacturer is sightly different but some settings would save me doing say 30 tries versus 3 tries. I know there would be different settings for a 20W versus a 40w but they could help. I just bought my laser for my modellering pursuit and can’t believe that no-one has put up a guide on the web of settings. Thanks in advance.

I don’t have a laser yet myself (by the end of summer though I will). I am thinking that it would be smart to create a file that has a series of basic shapes - sya rows of squares both empty and filled. Each could then be assigned a different color that corresponds to a power/speed setting. You could then save it and “print it” out on each new material and see a complete set of results on one pass rather than spend seemingly forever on individual tries. You could also save the piece for future reference rather than have to run different settings all over again. Would this make sense?

Universal supplied me with a book that had all of the most common materials, and the settings. For out of the ordinary materials send them an e-mail and they will give you a recommendation for a starting point.

Get a hold of your Universal Dealer. The manual has a listing of the power/speed/dpi for a whole range of powers. Z settings is the height, so that is up to you, they should have given you an alignment guide to adjust the table height. The guys and gals down in Arizona are good to deal with, I have had no issues with service from them.

I just wanted to clear up any misunderstanding regarding the settings. I was supplied with the machine, various settings and posted another generic guide on recommended power, speed, etc. on what to set for my machine. The reason I asked the original question was to try and take out a lot of the trial and error that still is needed. Under no way was I inferring that in this posting that I wasn’t fully supported by my supplier. I am quite happy to post my settings in a spreadsheet to assist others.

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.
