Photograv problems

Thanks to all that answered me last post.

Sorry I was not able to take pics yet of my finished jobs for you to comment on. The new advanced driver from ULS which allows my (finally!) to set speed power settings etc has kept me busy.

Now the only thing I am waiting for is the ULS guide to common power settings.

I still have a few questions though:

1) After deleting the background (to make my jobs faster) and converting the image to the desired size and orientation, I convert the image to 8bit grayscale. At this point, one of the inserts in the manual says to set the TONE CURVE to a desired setting as pictured in the manual.

Do I need to do this? It seems when I do this step, it creates a very light engraving. I get better results when I manually adjust Brightness and Contrast to give it the same effect as the MAN reading a newspaper sample that came with Photograv. What are u guys doing?

2) The same insert also indicates to set Black to 0 and white to 255 in the resample window. I get a lighter engraving again. Still necessary?

3) After saving the binary engraved photo and opening it on Corel12 I am ready to print. Upon printing, do I set it at

a) 100% Power and 100% Speed? b) the same simulated power and speed settings indicated at the resampling window of Photograv? c) the optimum power and speed settings recommended by the manufacturer for wood or what ever material I am using? (at this point I don’t have it yet).

4) What are the recommended settings for wood? Is there a website that gives me a guide for these settings?

Can someone post the file of their recommended settings for a 50watt laser or similar?
