What to look for in laser engraving system

I’ll be going on a factory tour and getting a demo of the Epilog 24TT on Friday. This will be my final opportunity to compare Epilog with the Universal M300 before placing an order. Anyone have suggestions on what to look for or ask while I’m there?

One very important variable is speed. How fast can the arm move? And how powerful is the laser? Depending on what you’re trying to engrave will determine what speed you can run. Time testing can be valuable information.

Warranty is also important. That laser tube is expensive and so would other repairs.

Training. What sort of training do they provide? (What sort do you need?)

I purchased the laserpro explorer from http://www.jorlink.com/ The machine has a full 3 year warranty on everything but the optics but jorlink extends the warranty to include the optics. The ultimate deciding factor for me was the huge bed size of the explorer (38×20) and the rotary attachment. I did cheap out and got the 30 watt laser so for many things i must run well under 100% speed. This is a calculated move in the hopes of buying a second machine quicker so I have a redundant setup. That is another point. Should it break how long will it take to get back up? Where are parts warehoused? Who will do the repair?
