Default cheapest way to ship a press

State/Province: Florida
City: jacksonville
Hello, I know this may be the wrong section to post this, but I am trying to purchase a press in Texas and I had my brother pick it up for me and its ready to be shipped. The question is, what would be the cheapest method to get it shipped? It is about 600 lbs, and 48x48x49. (specs listed on website).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Then why not post it in the right section. Everything after this sentence makes zero sense.

Leo,

You will need to palletize the press and then ship by a freight trucking company. You will need to consider a forklift to get it off the back of the truck if you do not have a dock. Estes, old dominion, etc....

freightquote.com

It's a good idea to have the freight class of the press to get an accurate quote. Call the manufacturer and ask them what freight class they use when shipping that particular press.

Don't try to have the freight company determine the freight class, as they might use the class for a generic "printing press" which will end up with a crazy high quote.

If you do not have a forklift or dock available (either at your location or the delivery address) you may need a quote for a truck with a lift gate.

Hi - You may also want to check with any other friends who have business that ships by truck on a regular basis into Jax. If they have an account they will have an established discount rate. The rate they get for shipping maybe better that what you get quoted by phone. If your friend has a loading dock, let the the truck deliver to that location to save some money, you can use a pickup to get the press after it is delivered.

It was a good idea to post in this section. Shipping cost and cost of the press all make the final price. The machine dealers who post here deal with shipping every day. They should reply on shipping tricks as it is good info for everyone.

Thanks everyone for their input, I ended up getting the press shipped for $390. From a residential address to a commercial address. It was a vastex HD2000 6 color press by the way. I think I could have gotten it done cheaper if I went by the freight quote from Vastex oppose to freightcenter's. This will be a lesson learned for next time this situation arises. Thank you very much EVO, SRFDESIGN, and dd2.
