Knit caps

I'm a newbie here. I sew with a SWF T1501C. Please advise what size needle and what type backing should be used for knit caps (beanie style). Thanks for any info.

In this month's IMPRESSIONS magazine there is a nice 3 page article on which needle to use for which product... very informative. check it out. Probably in the online version too.

I use standard 75/11 ball points. You CAN use tear away, if its a sold design, with little/no text, however to prevent distortion of text, I use medium wt. cut away. You will also need solvy topping to stop the stitches from sinking into the knit of the beanie.

I load them on stickybacking in the old style semiwide hat hoops. With tearaway behind it.
